East Grand River Park Cruise Meet in Grand Haven, Michigan
It was a pleasant day, cloudy but not cold throughout the meet. All of us there (except Jason Pell - more on that later) launched at the boat ramp at the East Grand River Park | Gazebo and cruised southeast up to about Dermo Island where we were forced to turn around due to extreme narrowing of the passageway because of excessive weeds! After that everyone travelled the opposite direction and briefly paused at Petty's Bayou. It was a nice trip but the waves were pretty rough at times.
Jason Pell won the contest for "How Far I Came With My Boat" meet award for running his boat over to the meet from Jerusalem Bayou in Spring Lake Township.
Bill Shattuck and Jim Wildgen won the award for "Trying To Tow A Boat And Getting Stuck In The Middle Of A Weed Bog" award. Fortunately they stayed dry and out of the water despite repeated attempts to free their boats from the very nasty weeds - we're talking weeds like every time you put your oar in, it comes out with 10lbs of weeds attached! But then Jason came to our rescue - thank you Jason.
Jim and Judi Nienhouse were our meet hosts, and they provided a yummy "Sloppy Joe" lunch and vegetable tray that most went back for seconds and thirds! We took full advantage of the nice gazebo there, providing shade and picnic tables. Everyone enjoyed some great times out on the water today with all our vintage boats. Check out the pictures and the video to see how it all played out. A big "Thank You" to everyone who provided the pictures and videos from this meet.
